The Dan Quayle Center & Museum is the
only vice-presidential museum in the country. Visitors from all 50 states and dozens of
foreign countries have come to the Center. The Quayle Center has been a favorite on
mystery tours as well as on tours that include the nearby Lincoln Museum. Visitors also
enjoy the unique gifts to be found in the Center's gift shop.
The museum has five major offerings
for its visitors:
1. Permanent Exhibits
There are two located on the second floor.
One traces Dan Quayle from birth to the vice presidency; and the second looks at the role
of the vice presidency.
2. Changing Exhibits
Museum workers research and install a new
exhibit every four to five months.
3. Large-Screen Video Presentation
The museum has a video that was
professionally produced and edited, at a cost of nearly $10,000. It lasts about eleven
minutes, and is shown by a projection system that enlarges the picture to eight feet by
ten feet.
4. Special Events
The museum hosts educational programs,
exhibit grand openings, and other special events like the Air Force Brass Quintet,
congressional town meetings, and an annual dinner with guest speakers. Last winter, we did
a 13- part series, called "Sunday at the Center," that featured videotape
presentations on Constitutional issues for thirteen Sundays in a row.
5. Gift Shop
The gift shop offers a wide variety of
unique gift items including books and cassettes, t-shirts and sweatshirts, glassware,
coffee mugs, golf balls and towels, bookmarks, playing cards, photographs, lithographs,
collector's items, and much more.
